Truth About INFECTED Gouty Tophi...

Gouty Tophi is the accumulation of urate crystal deposits underneath the skin, usually it won't cause any infection or serious pain. But if the growth of the tophus lump is not contained, it will grows to a stage in which the pressure within is strong enough to burst and leave an open wound which is the beginning of infection. 

Another situation is the patient himself cannot stand having a lump on the feet that makes it inconvenient to walk or even wear a shoes, he will go to a doctor or DIY himself to poke a hole on the lump to squeeze out the white milky urate crystal fluid, if it this procedure is not handled properly, the patient may risk getting an infected gouty tophus. 



Unlike the other types of skin open wounds that are caused by external factors such as scratching or cut, gouty tophi wound is unique because the actual wound is larger than you can see on the surface. This is because gouty tophi grow from inside, it has already beat a pathway through the muscle or epidermis tissues, this make it easier for the bacteria to travel deeper if it comes in through the open wound. 

The condition will be worse if the gout patient is also long term diabetic and is already has signs of diabetic neuropathy. That means the blood circulation around the infected gouty tophi is not good enough to supply ample amount of oxygen and nutrients for the white blood cells to fight the battle. 

Gouty tophi may not be deadly, but it definitely cause a certain level of discomfort to the patient's life. It's better to take active steps in try to dissolve the gouty tophi from inside or prevent the formation of it through natural ways.
